I encountered a lot of buzzwords, hype, trends and religious wars in IT at an early stage. More precisely, since I started to occupy myself with computers and their possibilities with my Atari. In all of this, it is important to develop a feeling for the actual circumstances and needs.
At first, networking was internal but has now been real for over 20 years using the Internet. This goes hand in hand with a centralization of services and data in the cloud when it is sensible to do that. But there are also many devices, services and data that do their work on the so-called periphery. With IoT, Industry 4.0, autonomous driving etc., peripherals are gaining significantly in weight and scope. In my opinion, this will have an impact on the idea of the cloud. This will change and in reality, it will ultimately result in a combination of in-house IT, cloud computing and edge computing. All these systems and individual components need to be managed and controlled automatically. I see great opportunities there, both with the platform-neutral PowerShell Core and also PowerShell IoT. The latter is certainly still in its infancy, but the first steps have already been taken.
So, the future of ScriptRunner has only just begun.
